Fashion designer and internet sensation Nancy Tyagi made a dazzling return to the Cannes Film Festival, turning heads once again with not one but two breathtaking looks. Known for her incredible self-stitched ensembles, Nancy Tyagi impressed fans and fashion critics alike, especially with the revelation that she personally designed and tailored both outfits from scratch.
From sourcing the perfect fabric to crafting every detail with precision, Nancy’s creativity and craftsmanship were on full display. Her red carpet appearance reaffirmed her place as one of India’s most exciting self-made fashion icons. But while the spotlight celebrated her artistry, controversy soon followed.
On Day 2 of her Cannes red carpet appearance, Nancy stunned in a glamorous mini-dress adorned with intricate pearls, silver embellishments, and fringe detailing. The shimmering outfit exuded elegance and drama, amplified by an oversized cape featuring voluminous sleeves and a sweeping train. The look was nothing short of a showstopper.

Sharing the look on social media, Nancy captioned the post with heartfelt words:
“Ye colour meri mummy ka favourite hai, isliye iss baar decide kiya ki isi colour mein dress design karun. Isse banane mein poora one month laga, aur main last moment tak taiyaari mein lagi rahi, kyunki dress kaafi heavy thi. Dil se shukriya un sabhi ka jo is pyaari journey ka ek hissa rahe, aap sabke bina yeh moment vapis itna special nahi hota.”
(This color is my mom’s favorite, so I decided to design this outfit in the same shade. It took me a whole month to create, and I was preparing until the last moment because the dress was quite heavy. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who’s been a part of this beautiful journey—this moment wouldn’t have been as special without you all.)
However, the celebration soon took a sharp turn. Some fashion critics alleged that Nancy’s second outfit wasn’t entirely self-made, as claimed. According to these sources, the embellished mini-dress was originally from a brand called The Source Bombay.
The critics claimed they contacted the brand directly, which reportedly confirmed that the mini-dress had been sourced from them. While Nancy may have referred specifically to the cape in her caption, the implication that the entire ensemble was self-designed sparked confusion and debate.
As the news circulated, social media erupted. Some users expressed disappointment, feeling misled by the caption. Others rallied in support of Nancy, appreciating her overall effort and the emotional story behind her look.
The online community remains divided, with many asking for clarity and others defending her creative expression regardless of the origins of the outfit.
Whether stitched from scratch or styled with borrowed elements, one thing’s certain—Nancy Tyagi knows how to make an impact.
